Dave Daly: A few quick points: The use of the "I" in iPod seems only partly inspired by sort of "high-tech" words (e.g. e-commerce, i-banking, etc.) -- the "I" also stresses individuality. Perhaps that's also the backstory on creating the new colors and the several different sizes and such, so that the playlist isn't the only thing that shows your individuality. In the same vein, I remember a news article (don't recall when or where, though) about people who were buying regular earphones instead of the iPod white phones -- standing out by not standing out so much.

Dave Daly: One more point about having a personal soundtrack to life... those who've seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail will remember Sir Robin's minstrels: http://www.monty-pythons.com/audio/songs/robinran.wav

The upside of the iPod: You can control the music in your soundtrack.
The downside: In the frozen land of Nador, you can't eat the iPod.
