Building 500 will become the new Archaeology Center at Stanford University. Previously, it was the home of mechanical engineering and related fields and their laboratories. This 'shell' of a building serendipitously presents a site-specific nexus integrating various theoretical/methodological concerns in archaeology: abandonement studies and site-formation processes, reflexive methodology and media documentation, material culture and the archaeology of contemporaneity, and the question of detritus and archaeology as valuing the banal/abject. The correspondence of all of these themes in one appropriate locale will be visually and verbally explored further (follow the links).

Tim Webmoor: Guys, here is contact@Stanford's Maps + Records Dept. across from Transportation Bldg. where we can get historical maps of buildings, etc.: Olga Raykina (CAD specialist). Also, each dept. has 'space coordinator' who has access to detailed info. under ispace. Finally, check out Stanford Maps
