This
is another experimental study in modeling the site report. The focus is the
excavations of one of the most famous sites of Cretan prehistory, dug and partly
rebuilt by Arthur Evans at the beginning of the twentieth century.
It began as a joint project with Stanford Continuing Studies and Stanford MediaWorks
(now Media Solutions) – to build an on-line archaeological course for
a broad audience. When the major funding was withdrawn (as the Stanford/Oxford/Yale
Alumni Alliance redeveloped its policies), the project became much more adventurous.
Alex Protopopescu and I tried out all sorts of web possibilities, mainly in
organizing material. This web version is no longer on line.
I am reworking the material again as a Metamedia project in
Traumwerk;
it has already been the subject of a class assignment (in Winter 2002).
