current research is on the political and social dimensions of Hellenistic Literature.
Seeing Double: Intercultural Poetics in Ptolemaic
Alexandria, a study that situates Alexandrian poetry in its Greek and
Egyptian political context, appeared in 2003. Trained as a papyrologist, she
has published literary and documentary texts belonging to the Oxyrhynchus (P.Oxy.
45) and the Yale (P. Yale II) collections, and with Jack Winkler edited Ancient
Greek Novels: The Fragments (Princeton 1995). Her interests include Greek
oratory, Greco-Egyptian cultural interaction, and the social context of the
ancient Greek fiction writing.
