Stephens’ current research is on the political and social dimensions of Hellenistic Literature. Seeing Double: Intercultural Poetics in Ptolemaic Alexandria, a study that situates Alexandrian poetry in its Greek and Egyptian political context, appeared in 2003. Trained as a papyrologist, she has published literary and documentary texts belonging to the Oxyrhynchus (P.Oxy. 45) and the Yale (P. Yale II) collections, and with Jack Winkler edited Ancient Greek Novels: The Fragments (Princeton 1995). Her interests include Greek oratory, Greco-Egyptian cultural interaction, and the social context of the ancient Greek fiction writing.
